For more than 100 years, we from Ehrmann have been working with natural valuable raw materials and creating healthy and delicious products. The strong link to nature and the closeness to our region of Allgäu play an important role in the company’s history and success. They form the basis for our ecological responsibility which we fulfil with a variety of projects and commitments.

Preservation of nature

For many years, Ehrmann SE has been involved in the Stiftung KulturLandschaft Günztal (Foundation for the Natural Reserve Günztal) which is committed to  environmental education and preservation as well as and landscape maintenance in the vicinity of the Ehrmann’s headquarters.

Ehrmann supports this commitment by, for example, purchasing stretches of land that are then renaturated and thus contribute to maintaining biodiversity.

Original Allgäu Brown Cattle

Ehrmann promotes the preservation of the original Allgäu brown cattle, which is a traditional breed of cow threatened by extinction, despite being closely connected to the rise of the Allgäu as a milk and cheese region.

The objectives of this projects are to increase the stock of currently 600 cattle and to actively involve the original Allgäu brown cattle in the preservation of the biodiversity by having them graze in natural areas worthy of protection.

Energy

Since 2013 all Ehrmann sites in Germany have been certified in accordance with DIN ISO EN 50001. This means that an energy management system has been introduced and is being lived. The Executive Board has established in the company policy that environmentally friendly and energy efficient technologies, which reduce the harmful effects on the environment, are to be used and that energy consumption is to be optimised and waste is to be reduced. This is reflected also in the many planned and partially already implemented measures.

Thus a block heat and power plant was put into operation at the Oberschönegg site in 2014. The plant consists of two modules of 1,100 kW each. In the coming years, about 70% of the required annual amount of electricity is to be self-generated. In combination with a co-generation system, not just the primary energy consumption will fall, but there will also be a reduction in CO2 emissions of about 50%. More resource-saving projects are currently in the conceptual design stage.
